Hi, I’m David.
I’m a CAL FIRE–trained defensible space assessor, and I started EmbrD because I kept meeting neighbors who wanted to protect their homes but didn’t know where to start, or were drowning in checklists.

California Zone 0 (Board of Forestry)
The new statewide rules for the first 5 feet around your home, adopted in August 2026, with a phased timeline for existing homes.
Chapter 7A: California’s wildland building code
What your house and nearby structures should be built from: vents, roofs, sheds, pergolas.
IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home
A voluntary, insurer-linked standard that goes further than the law. I always tell you which is which.
Local rules: Kensington, El Cerrito & Berkeley
Local fire departments can set stricter rules and earlier timelines. Berkeley is doing exactly that.
